WONDERFUL INDONESIA

With over 17,000 islands spreading between the Pacific and Indian Ocean, it is the world’s largest archipelago. Indonesia has more than 300 ethnic groups with over 500 spoken languages bridging the continents of Asia and Australia; a multitude of amazing landscapes and biodiversity stretching along the equator line; this is Indonesia, a land of endless spectacular wonders!

As the largest archipelagic country in the world, Indonesia is blessed with so many different people, cultures, customs, traditions, artworks, food, animals, plants, landscapes, and everything that made it almost like 100 (or even 200) countries melted beautifully into one. Every island here is a unique mixture of natural splendors and different cultures of people who live upon it; from the vibrant tourists’ paradises of Bali and Lombok to the mysteriously shrouded cultures of the Asmat in Papua and those who dwell the highlands of Toraja in South Sulawesi.

Situated at the heart of the world’s precious coral triangle and along the Ring of Fire, Indonesia’s countless wonders stretches from mountain tops all the way to the bottom of its vast seas. Along the diverse landscapes, various unique wildlife made the archipelago their only natural habitat including the legendary Komodo Dragons, the gentle giant Orangutan, the majestic Cendrawasih Bird of Paradise, and so much more. Beyond the surface of the sea, Indonesia’s extensive coral reef is regarded as the richest and most diverse in the world; simply the ultimate paradise for divers and underwater enthusiasts.

With rich history that dates back for centuries, Indonesia also holds some of the most fascinating monuments of human civilization. Among these is the imposing Borobudur Temple in Magelang, Central Java which the largest Buddhist monument that still stood majestically today with all its spectacular features. Equally fascinating is the Prambanan Temple Compounds which is one of the biggest in Southeast Asia.

The ever-intriguing, ever-intoxicating land holds some of the greatest adventures you will ever experience on the face of the earth. With all its abundance splendors, it would take a lifetime to explore all the wonders of the archipelago, and still left you craving for more. As the country of the ultimate in Diversity, there’s sure everything for everyone here.

Welcome to Wonderful Indonesia!

EXPLORE YOGYAKARTA

Yogyakarta, the Royal City Yogyakarta, is the cradle of civilization on Java. This city was the seat of power that produced the magnificent temples of Borobudur and Prambanan in the 8th and 9th centuries and the new powerful Mataram kingdom of the 16th and 17th century.  Today, it is also renowned as “ Jogja Istimewa “, or “Special Jogja” a tagline that elaborates its special values.

This city is one of the foremost cultural centers of Indonesia. From strolling through the living museum of the Kraton (Sultan’s Palace), to hanging out at the famous Alun Alun, to watching silversmiths produce amazing jewelry at Kotagede and maybe try a splurgeof shopping up at Malioboro road. Chasing sunrise in famous temples like Prambanan and Borobudur are only some of the many more ways to never get bored in this bustling city. That is the centre of Indonesian higher education and creative culture with its many artists and creators.

The Wonders of the Ancient Heritage You can experience all five wonders in this artsy city. Starting from indulging in the natural wonders, by visiting scenic beaches and photogenic landscape. Parangtritis, Indrayanti, Pok Tunggal, Siung, Krakal, and Jogan are some of the famous beaches in town. Breathtaking points such as Puncak Becici, Pinus Pengger, and Jurang Tembelan are only several of plenty more exciting back-to-nature destinations in Yogyakarta! For culinary wonders, don’t forget to try Gudeg (breadfruit) first, special cooking of traditional Javanese recipe that is iconic to this city.

Bakpia, is a traditional snack with many enticing flavors that are popular for souvenirs. For a beverage, you can try our Jamu, a natural herb mix beverage based on ancient tradition used for natural remedies. Batik, an officially recognized UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, is the national treasure based on the Javanese word of “amba” and “titik”, meaning to write the dots. It is an art of decorating fabric using wax and dyeing process. Yogyakarta has a signature batik pattern that is usually made with a bright white basic. Some of the motifs are namely The Parang Kusumo, Kawung, and Truntum, each was created with the special philosophy behind its every dots. There are Batik Tulis, Batik Cap, Batik Print, and the mixed result of the techniques. The most expensive is the Batik Tulis, which are made of 100% hand painedt ornaments. It will become even more expensive if it is made from precious silk fabric. Making a fine quality Batik Tulis can range from a day of production to a meticulous months-long process, depend on the size and sheer complicated details of the design. Wayang is also an amazing art heritage known from Yogyakarta.

There are the Wayang Kulit or leather puppet, played on a shadow puppet show by the Dalang or puppet master through a screen lit by lights. Wayang Orang is the life-size performances depicting the same philosophical messages from ancient stories and is presented by men and women in elaborate traditional costumes. You can discover the recreational wonders, by visiting the tourism villages in Yogyakarta. Tembi, Pentingsari, and Nglanggeran are three of the places that you can start with. Experience the authentic daily life of the locals, and learn some new skills, such as playing the gamelan, weaving janur, and perform a Javanese traditional dance! Adventure wonders are also aplenty in Yogyakarta.

Starting with exploring Mount Merapi National Park, riding the thrilling jeep ride, and hiking Mount Nglanggeran, an ancient volcano located in a beautiful village.

To prevent the spread of COVID-19 transmission, the Indonesian government is continuously leveraging innovative responses such as the introduction of digital public services. The Indonesian Ministry of Law and Human Rights has launched an electronic visa (e-Visa) application system aimed to provide ease of access, especially during the pandemic.

The e-Visa application system will also facilitate future foreign tourists who wish to visit Indonesia after the pandemic, making a positive impact on the development of tourism and creative economy of Indonesia. In the meantime, safe tourist destinations are being prepared in compliance with health protocols.

With the launch of this service, foreigners no longer need to visit the Republic of Indonesia Representative out of the country or the Immigration Office in the country to get a visa sticker on their passport. To enter Indonesia, they just need to apply for a visa online via this e-Visa application system.

The steps to apply for the Indonesian e-Visa are as follows:

1. Visit https://visa-online.imigrasi.go.id/

2. Register

- Enter data and upload required documents (individual/ corporation)

- Wait for the email notification which contains the username and password

3. Apply for Visa

- Log in using the username and password

- Select the type of visa you wish to apply for, enter data, and upload required documents

- Make PNBP payments (Make sure the data and documents are correct. If the application is rejected, the payment shall not be refunded)

- If the application is approved, a notification will be sent via email

The application for e-Visa can be submitted from wherever the applicant is. The verification process will be quick, which is 3  (two) - 5 (five) working days, and then the visa will be sent to the applicant. In order to cut bureaucratic procedures, the applicant and the guarantor will not be required to appear in person and the visa will be sent directly via email. Once the foreign citizens (WNA) receive their e-Visa, they can immediately travel to Indonesia.

The ease of applying for an Indonesian visa will play an important role to facilitate the post-pandemic recovery of tourism and creative economy sectors. With this innovation, the number of tourists visiting Indonesian destinations is expected to grow after the pandemic.

The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy introduced InDOnesia CARE, a symbol of support for Indonesia’s strong effort in implementing the cleanliness, health, and safety protocols across the tourism industry as mandatory precautions.
